As a person aspiring to start my own production company, researching about the entertainment industry and my target market plays an important role in my company's success. As a company that’s located in Los Angeles, California, there are numerous production studios that pose as a competition with strong presence and reputation on and off the Internet. In researching about popular websites, three popular websites that are in the entertainment industry right now that have proven to be very popular among audiences are Fox.com, Warnerbros.com, and Universal Studios.

The first website, Fox.com, is a website that’s an extension of the entertainment brand Fox Entertainment Group. In reading about them, Fox is one of the 6 major studios in the United States that produces films and television shows in any genre. In looking at Fox.com’s web traffic, it appears as though that every month in a six month period from December 2009 to June 2010, Fox.com roughly had 35,033,444 page views per month in the US and a 41,994, 316 page view per month Globally. Then in looking at the demographic that visits the site, 55% of visitors consist of females while 45% are male. Most of the visitors are people between the ages of 18 to 34. Similarly, Warner Bros is another major American production company that’s popular and produces films of any genre. In looking at their 6 month website traffic, Warnerbros.com get at least an estimation of 8,316,651 page views per month in the US and a 11,109,485 page view per month globally. In looking at their demographics of visitors 65% are females while 31% are males. Moreover, the age groups that visit their sites are between 45 to 49 years old. Last but not least, Universal Studios is another film production website that produces films and is a very popular one in the industry. In researching about their company, their website gets a 377,012 visits per month in which 55% of them consists of females while only 45% of visitors are male.

The film industry seems to have a main common target audience that they go for in order to market their product/service. In assessing each website and the information on them, it can be seen that the websites have common trends that they share. One major trend that the websites share is the demographic of the audiences they are going for. In comparing each site it can be seen that their main target audience are females between the ages of 13 to 34 with the male group being the second target audience. I think that the reason why females consist most of the website traffic is because of the fact that they are more likely to want to see a movie and bring along their significant other with them. In addition to that, I personally think that the age group of males and females between the ages of 13 to 34 has more time to use the Internet to do research. Nonetheless, another target market that the industry go for are people between the ages of 18 to 34 who have some degree of college education and who have decent income. The reason why I think they target this audience next is because of the fact that it’s the age where people have more time to go out and spend money because of independence and financial freedom. Likewise, they may use this opportunity to do some job-hunting in the entertainment industry or to find news/information. Moreover, people who visit these websites have interest in news/information, science & technology, television, music/radio, films, and sports. Likewise some other websites that they use are IMDB, and Rotten Tomatoes to search more about their favorite movies.

All in all, the top three popular websites I chose are some of the most popular websites there are in the industry. With their long history in the entertainment industry, they have built a reputation that makes them a major competitor and provider of valuable information of potential target audiences for my company to have.
